One baby was left in the yard of a house in Taman Mawar, Rawang, while the other was left on top of a rubbish bin outside a house in Taman Sri Pulai 3 in Sikamat, Seremban.
In the first case, the house owner in Rawang was walking out to dispose of rubbish at about 9.30am when she spotted a bundle in her yard.
She then heard a baby crying and contacted police.
Initial investigations showed that the baby boy, who was wrapped in a piece of cloth, was less than a day old.
“His umbilical cord was still attached. We believe that the baby was delivered just a few hours before he was found,” said Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Abdullah.
Several hours later, police arrested an 18-year-old girl in the neighbourhood.
“The suspect was arrested at her aunt’s house not far from where the baby was abandoned.
“We believe she gave birth at her aunt’s house.
“Checks also showed that the suspect, from Taman Puchong Permai, moved in with her aunt several months ago to hide her pregnancy from her immediate family.”
Rahim said the aunt would also be picked up to facilitate investigations, adding that she could be charged with abetment.
The suspect and the newborn have been warded at the Selayang Hospital.
In Seremban, a baby boy was found shivering on top of a dustbin during a drizzle yesterday evening.
The baby, with mittens in his hands and fully clothed, was placed on several sheets of newspaper on top of the dustbin.
He was found by a garbage contractor about 4.20pm when they were on their rounds to collect garbage in the neighbourhood.
Garbage truck driver, Maideen Machapu, 42, said a Nepalese worker opened the waste disposal compartment at a house and suddenly came running to him.
“I followed the worker and was shocked to see a baby on top of the closed dustbin in the compartment.
“I thought the baby had died, but then saw his hands moving.
“He was also shivering as it was raining. I then called the house owner.”
The house owner, identified as Ng Ah Moy, 68, later told police she did not know how the baby got there.
Seremban police chief ACP Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said an Indonesian woman in her early 20s had been detained to assist in the investigations.
