SEREMBAN: "I was confused. I didn't know what to do because I don't have anyone here to help me," said Indonesian maid Rusmiyah, who pleaded guilty at the magistrate's court yesterday to dumping her newborn baby boy.
The 22-year-old was charged with intentionally leaving her child on top of a rubbish bin in front house No. 705, Jalan Sri Pulai 46/3, Taman Sri Pulai 3 here at 4pm on June 29.
Rusmiyah, from Jawa, Indonesia, now faces a maximum seven years' jail or a fine or both.
Magistrate Marsilawati Mohamad Shah set bail at RM3,800 and fixed Sept 8 for sentencing.
Chief inspector Idora Omar prosecuted.
"After I am released, I want to get my child back and raise him on my own," said Rusmiyah, who is being held at the Kajang prison in Selangor.
It was reported that garbage contractors found the fully-clothed baby, believed to be a newborn, on top of a dustbin while making their collection rounds about 4.20pm.
The accused was detained after police retrieved a closed-circuit television recording that showed Rusmiyah leaving her baby on the rubbish bin in the neighbourhood where she was employed as a maid.
